Heidegger - The question concerning technology

Abstract

Synopsis

Summary

'Questioning' works to build a way. Focus on the way and not be stopped by propositions and particular terms. All ways of thinking are ways through language in a manner that is extraordinary. The question concerning technology open our being to the essence of technology. Experience the technological within its bounds.

technology =/= essence of technology =/= technological

No experience of the essence if only experience of technological. The essence is what something is.

What is technology?

2 answers: means to an end / human activity to posit ends and procure and utilize the means to them is a human activity. Technology is a contrivance, an instrumentum. > instrumental and anthropological definition of technology this is valid for older and modern technology so it conditions every attempt to bring man into the right relation to technology. Everything depends on how we use technology in the right way as a means. 'get technology spiritually in hand', to master technology as the more urgent against being controlled by technology. But if technology is not a pure means, what about mastering it? The instrumental definition is correct because shows what you have in front of you, but only an uncovering reveal the essence, the true.

What is the instrumental? (means and end)

A means is that whereby something is effected and obtained. The thing which results in an effect is a cause, but also the end, which determines the means, is a cause. Where means and ends, reigns causality. 4 causes: materialis / formalis / finalis / efficiens
