cataloguing system

The Rietveld Library uses Evergreen open-source software to catalogue its books. They have developed it with the aim of making the infrastructure of the librayr cataloguing system more visible. This in line with workshops with students to address the fact that students use both analog and digital books, as well as many files, docs etc that are usually disorganised.

republishing as EPUBS

The EPUB format offers a lot of potential in its structure - composed of HTML files, and stored in folders according to chapter - offers a lot of potential in its structure to "bring books together" or to make "a book of a book". Based on Ivan Illich's Tools for Conviviality, Rietveld librarians have republished books by scanning, OCR processing and converting to EPUB.
