Maps are abstractions of the material world, used to help us navigate from one point to another. A map can be graphic, and also conceptual - in fact the idea of private property is a way of mapping the world, and delineating where it is acceptable to travel.

The "precession of simulacra" outlined in Jean Baudrillard's 'Simulacra and Simulacrum' would seem to dictate that there is no map that can be 100% accurate - in fact the most accurate map is at a 1:1 scale.
