Notes on Control, Crash & Detox

Control:

Who has the control of who we are when we are online? The way we are able to express ourselves online, being able to edit/modify what we say might really tell us who we really are.
Projecting into the online space, building a larger and larger network. A streamline persona, building a continuous need for performance, becoming a demand, where you have to keep up with this digital self.
Media Spaces, individuals in a mode of engaging inside a corporate’s wheel.
There is a lot of information about us that you we don’t have control on. We can be a lot better at controlling technology. With the amount of control that we have over how we express ourselves, with every new creation of an identity or performance we create new responsibilities by creating new spaces we have to keep up, creating multi online lives, becoming very disorienting but it might be where we are nowadays.

Crush:

The emotions, connections, vulnerabilities, and the web is an incredible connection engine, allowing us to become intimate with our minds rather with our bodies, could the digital world impede an emotion? Dates arranged by computer algorithms. Contemporary culture has created an imbalance between desire and love. Love develops after desire has died away, so living in a constant desiring society is pretty bad for us.
The idea of that you perfect yourself inside a box, and then you release yourself in the world, an individual always flood, lacking, always needing another person or individual to fulfill, the notion of making the most of yourself, believing in yourself, the self self self culture, it’s almost impossible for two people who have been always perfecting themselves to make a serious commitment, they will always going to be disappointed. Online space as a reductive leveler. The main experience of the Internet is disappointment. If we tell all about ourselves we feel closer to the other person, therefore we can develop more profound relationships, feeling more free by telling who they are.
The emotional openness of digital algorithms?

Relationships online are generated very profound, specially with writing, and therefore very quickly, but without senses it seems quite difficult. Online relationships might complement offline ones, it might be beneficial and they will get more and more relevant, but they will not replace each other. Love is being together emotionally, trusting the other person completely, which involves sharing, whether online (better in many ways) or offline, we are facing a postmodern relationship in romance.

Detox:

Cyborg addicts. Detoxing from devices.
To what extend is technology negatively affecting someone’s life quality? It’s really easy to be distracted with highly empathetic tools. To how many people is producing a lot of stress in their lives? Devices are meant to help, and technology is growing quickly, and it’s tiring to be constantly stimulated, having the feeling to be stuck in our heads. We need to be more mindful in how to use our devices. The inner switch tasking demon. Internet addiction is most similar to gambling.
Lurking in the digital World. Information jonkey. Timer to put all devices away for a specific time. Using technologies to fill moment of their day when they feel they are bored, our brain is constantly changing (idea of plasticity), what we do is training our brains: so if what we do is constantly jumping onto different social medias we are training ourselves in distraction (on the inability to sit still). Boredom as an impact in the modern World. Look at the boundaries of yourself. We are shifting our attention between lots of different things, when we step back we have the chance to think deeper about ourselves, finding that space. Digital technologies are wrapped in fear. It’s important to differentiate our technology and our relationship with technology. How to be more mindful about the positive effects of technology, rather than looking out for a quick fix?
