IRMA’S PHOTOBOOK AND ESSAY by Catalina

What is the photobook about: How communication strategies use visual communication remixing, reusing or recycling images that are used in different times before now. She is using images that represent a philosophy used by the visual communicator, who makes associations of the image with something else. A visual communicator is reusing the visual tone or way of speaking to associate with the first philosophy. Also the images used in the photobook will represent different ages (no matter times or epochs). She will use historical icons but also propaganda in small scales and every day life.

How? Cover and title: unknown. Size: 8x5 It will be about 30 to 50 pages. The two images for a page will also have a text that explains Irma’s connection between the images. The text will have details of the picture as: who made it, what year, what’s the philosophy of the image etc. Over the picture will be a card with the same image that could be taken out of the book and also the possibility to take out all the cards and play a memory game. On the back of the card will be a graphic orange design.

Why? Irma is interested in researching propaganda strategies for every day life, because it is part of her artist work. She is researching about the manipulation strategies to play with targeted audiences. It is interesting for Irma because the methods of communicating are very relevant on how people accept information. And how a second agenda of the source is sending information always there consciously or unconsciously.

An then the people will be aware about how they connect emotions with visuals and how they do that. How people are interpreting an image and what is doing with the interpretation.

Irma believes that with the book images and game, people will realize how they associate visual communication with history or things they have seen before.

Relation the text Is the first step with her research of propaganda strategies and is based on Noam Chomsky thoughts and theory of propaganda in a mass media. The photobook is the visual conceptualization about her subject research.

Relation to other work Her past work is about mock-umentary or fictional elements such as business, facebook, characters, and fake communication, and how everybody is interpreting propaganda.
