Irma's essay : Formula of credibility based on Noam Chomsky

INTRO ESSAY In this essay, I would like to research how communication strategies could be used to increase the credibility of the information that is being presented. Hereby I would like to summarize a clear formula based the propaganda theory of Noam Chomsky. This essay is part of my self-directed research, hereby I want to line-up and compare the communication strategies within different fields. In my work, I strive to use this knowledge to play with the credibility of information I present.

INTRO CHOMSKY Noam Chomsky is known as a leading philosopher, linguist, and anti-war activist. He is very critical of media coverage of politics and state power. As an intellectual, he sees his role to educate people on a broad scale. Therefore you can find him on a stage giving lectures or interviews, his goal is to make people aware on how the media highlights the news, but ignores some other events, Chomsky presents several examples in his book The Manufacturing of Consent but also in many debates, the most striking one was the .... in East Timor. This was one of the most..... where 1000 of people were murdered, raped, etc. Chomsky.

QUOTE

In the Documentary -The Manufacturing of Consent- documentary makers BLABLA en BLABLA give NY-Times Journalist BLABLA a chance to respond to Chomsky's comments. He gives a weird compersion whit the production of a sausage "QUOTE DOCU"

Chomsky developed a theory where he claims that mass media is brainwash under freedom. (find quote)

MANUFACTURE CONCENT - Starting point Orwell?

- How does society work?

There are two targets for propaganda: - 20% political class, teachers, managers. In charge on a small scale - 80% follows orders and do not think, or they don't want them to.

-The propaganda model: 5 points: Ownership Advertising Sourcing Flak - blz 62 & 86 (ctrl F) Anti-communism

BUSINESS MODEL OF THE MEDIA FOR EXAMPLE NEWS PAPER.

There are of other intellequtuals against the theories of Chomsky, Blablabla said : 'It is ridiculous to think that there is some core group' (interview...) In a tv debate BLABLA tries to strike Chomsky with the statement "hjfriuhfiuk" Chomsky's often refers to his research, his facts, but in his theory he also claims that I should not take his word. We should do our own research and compare deferant resources. Fair enough, but this is where the problem is. We don't have time to check everything, we where hoping to give thet responcebility to the journalist.

CHOMSKY'S SOLUTION FOR BETTER WORLD Chomsky advises people to develop an independent mind, you can not trust only one source of information. In the media, a journalist could think he is doing a great job informing the public, but he could also, subconsciously or not, filter the information. It seems logical to not trust just one source, if you can't trust a journalist, you have to be a journalist yourself and use your surroundings to discuss different points of view.
