A science fiction novel about the surveillance in society. Written in the 60's it deals with an issue that back then was just starting to hit the surface. The struggle of individuals who are becoming controlled by the government. Nowadays it seems a lot of elements in the book have a certain value of truth in them. 2001: A SPACE ODDYSEY
This film leaves you wondering what you have just seen. Whilst in space the main character shifts from the astronaut role, to the computer role that controls the space craft, and uses its technology to do its own will. The astronaut who becomes a symbol for ‘men’ finds strength to shut the computer down – and in that sense the whole of technology. His own individual will surpasses that of the technology. It has been said to be a film about future influence of technology - which in my opinion is the truth. But it even has been said to be the search for God -which, in the end – could also well be the case.
Themes: control and individual will
