User:Alice/Leaflet platform
Concept
The project that has been the focus of the past year is based on a large collection of material, from text, to images, to videos. In terms of work produced, it's composed of a written essay which follows the development of the meal replacement phenomenon, a video essay which focuses on meal replacements as alleged solutions to problems, and a multi-sensory installation. It also contains a number of other material, such as audio files, spreadsheets and written diaries, transcriptions, etc. The connections between all these pieces is crucial in having a broad outlook on the topic, and understanding all the implications that come with a seemingly inconspicuous range of products. This is why I wanted a publishing platform which can highlight all these connections through hyperlinks.
Original project
The Situationist Times project provided me with the ideal platform for my work. It will connect the text of my thesis with specific parts of my video and a number of related material using leaflet to map out the written content, then connect the coordinates of certain paragraphs to the timestamps of the video.
Working with Leaflet
First attempt at using leaflet:
In the absence of Leafygal, I was not able to add more than one page layer to the html. The script that creates the tiles automatically from images create a separate folder for all the tiles, for each image in particular. Hence, it was not possible to have it run through a series of folders.
Leafygal
Leafygal allows a grid to be created out of tile layers.
The platform that combines the map area, the video and the annotations
The updated form of the written essay.
Hosting
Continuing with the concept of a bedroom-based project, the website is self-hosted on the server running from a RaspberryPi in my own house.
