I’m curious in the subjectivity of the achieving methods, the proportion between strict adherence to the policies and human impact. My work is an artistic interpretation and reflections on how the achieving process is organized, what stages the film passes to appear in achieve, how metadata is compilated: from objective attributes (year, director, etc.) to cataloging and tagging processes and its subjectiveness. How new entry is born

IDEA I

An audio-visual installation that explores metadata of the pieces from silent cinema collection, their visual language, and narrative specificities, to generate sound or, in other words, insonify the film. Few silent video pieces composed for 3 screens and insonifyed. The archiving process follows strict policy and sustains personal/human impact. My project is a metaphor for this process. I investigate the possibility of creating 'objective' model of sound generation and my personal impact on it as the author of maxims for the process. Insonification is based on motion vectors, extracted from the video and mapped to the process of sound generation. The way sound is synthesised is based on metadata and the rules I set up for it.

Facilities, needed for installation:

  • Three screens
  • Sound system
  • Computer to synchronize videos

To investigate:

  • optical sound
  • motion vectors
  • Gordon Pask
  • optophone
  • phonopaper example
  • synesthesia

IDEA II

Human face of the archive “Archive” curators of the archive, who’s influence on the archive lies above policies and its roots. Create metadata for their personality in terms of curatorship and their experience. Express standart information we used to associate with person (for example in CV) with cinema specific measurements. Video compilation that is created based on the usage of “metadata” of a person to search and select video pieces.
