Blog This!

  • "Lowering barriers to cultural participation". Extending traditinal media : "as this column appears, my authorial control ends and theirs begins."

The Cult of The Amateur

  • What is true, what is false. How can we differenciate truth from the rest?
  • Interesting : is Google telling us what we already know? (i.e. more amateurs clicking on the same links makes them go up the google ladder?). Perhaps not, as Google does base its ranking on real-life 'objective, truthful knowledge' (i.e. published books, .edu/gov domains, etc.)
  • Maybe the author is right, we are all monkeys. On the other hand, traditional media news sources have clear agendas, which undermines completely their respectability in telling 'objective' news.
  • Who will be the cultural gatekeepers? Who will guide us to know what is good/bad?
  • (Irony) how come we are actually reading text from books (PZI) and even attending a cultural institution? This could hardly be more 'traditional' as a means of collecting 'knowledge' and 'recognition'.
  • Wikipedia VS citizendium
  • "Talent : people with special training, knowledge, hands-on experience to generate any kind of new perspective"
  • Numbers from ad revenue on blogs is wrong...or very selective.
  • "Artifical intelligence is a poor replacement for good taste"

Thew New Hacker's dictionnary Meh.

Everybody Else

  • Get your own server, otherwise, of course you can't control the content.
  • Read the terms of agreement, of course they can do whatever they want with your content.
  • Nothing disappears on the net.

Do you believe in users?

  • Needs more explanation : how is the computer not the extension of us, and other tools? Doesn't a tool become effective when it disappears?
  • Technically, how does the change in server/client software affect digital folklore?
