Beginnings of GNU project.
Excerpt from Revolution OS, a documentary which traces the history of GNU, Linux, and the open source and free software movements.
"I joined the MIT artificial intelligence lab in 1971, and joined a thriving community of hackers, people who loved programming and exploring computers. They had developed a complete operating system entirely written there and I became one of the team that continued to improve that operating system by adding new capabilities. We called the systems the 'incompatibility time sharing system, which is an example of the playful spirit which defined a hacker. Hackers are people who enjoy playful cleverness" -Richard Stallman
