A licensing system developed by Richard Stallman which allows users to modify the source code of a system provided they grant the same rights to those they pass the system on to. Copyleft is one of the basic tenets of the open source movement. It is derived from the word ‘copyright’, the use of ‘left’ differentiating it from that restrictive form of licensing. [1]

Protocol for Wiki-ing

In this sense, freedoms refers to the use of the work for any purpose, and the ability to modify, copy, share, and redistribute the work, with or without a fee.

Protocol for Context & Indexing

"For some, Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) appears to offer a model of practitioner-led collaborative practice that, through its legislative mechanisms such as copyleft licensing, could be applied to artistic practice in a way that might counteract such problems of recuperation."

Tommy-Lee Coleman, CEO of AuPaired

I am a silicon valley startup tech CEO and I FUCKING HATE copyleft. I'm trying to get my fourteenth startup off the ground (it's like the uber for foreign au pairs) but I keep getting shafted by leftist GitHub activists who license their code with bullshit requirements like "share alike" and "non-commercial". Do they -want- to be poor? Recently I talked with Trevor about it over some IPAs and he shared my distaste, it came to the point that his son, Invictus, had to cancel his dropshipping gig because 94% of his codebase fell under CC-BY-SA and NO way he's gonna make his app open source. He's redpilled, he's chad, he's grindset-oriented.

I wish my boy, Aurelius, was more like that... He's outside playing with his friends all day instead of getting the bag and disrupting markets. This is a dog-eat-dog world we live in and he won't be eating any dogs if he keeps this up.

Eleni got back from a long day at uni. She hadn't seen her cat in days, so to feel better she put out her favourite mixing bowl, put on her polkadot apron and got to baking her famous bottomless bannananana cake, babey. Suddenly, she got a text message from one of her uni friends, inviting her to a party. She was so excited to share the cake with everyone, so she just packed it in a heat resistant tapperware and set off.

On her way there, she passed through the park when she came across a lovely old lady, hanging out with the local pigeons. "Oh, dear. I forgot my bread treats at home and my friends are sooooo hungry." she exclaimed and her companions agreed with a collective "Coo! Coo!"

Eleni freely offered a slice of her cake (it was of course pigeon friendly, so as to not kill the local biodiversity). The old lady opened her satin purse as the coins jiggled inside, "What shall I offer in return?" but Eleni was quick to decline the offer. It was for free!!!

Further down the street she passed by a crumbling orphanage, where a small child sat a little table with a missing leg. The child stopped her and offered a small bowl asking, "Miss, Miss, can you spare some money for the orphanage?". Eleni checked all her pockets but was unable to find her own satin purse (coincidental). "I am so sorry small child, but I am without coin. Would you like some of my cake to sell at your table. It's sure to be a big seller!" She said confidently. The child looked delighted and quickly accepted.

Now quite late for the party Eleni rushed down the Athens boulevards. As she reached her friends door she felt a small weight on her should and a soft "Coooo-" in her ear. Being versed in pigeon speak, she quickly surmised that the pigeon had been chasing her ever since the park. The pigeon (Zayn) had been so impressed with the delicate bananana cake. It wasn't often often that one (that one being pigeon) was able to taste such delicious crumbs, as usually cake was not good on their little bellies (aw). Eleni replied with her own "Coo coos", offering her recipe for Zayn to share with anyone or to open their own pigeon coofe should they want to.

Protocol for Collective Definition Writing

Copyleft means, besides its original meaning as a pun, many things in the world of creative commons and copyright law. It means the uh anything made with copyleft can be used by someone else however they want, I think. It's as if you're copying from the person left to you, but they allow it, and want you to get a good grade. However, you have to give it back to them, what you make with it. Do you? I think so. I think not. I thought you could do.... Sorry. You can say no in your sentence. Yeah you can change that. No! wait nevermind. The cake is ephemeral. I don't know what ephemeral means. It means for a small amount of time. No it's infinite. Like is it a uh what do they call it bottomless, banana cake. Or just run (away) with it.

Protocol for Etymology and Avoiding Fake Friends

Richard Stallman stated that the use of "Copyleft" comes from Don Hopkins, who mailed him a letter in 1984 or 1985, on which was written: "Copyleft – all rights reversed", which is a pun on the common copyright disclaimer "all rights reserved".
