Intro
Topics + concepts I'm excited about:
✨ buttons and breadboards
✨ inputs and event triggers / DOM events and conductivity
✨ interstices and transitions / keyframes and in-between frames
✨ (user-unfriendly) interfaces and interactions
✨ tool misuse
✨ sound as spatial animation
When they turn into experiments or projects, they may be archived here and/or here.
Special Issue 16
Vernacular processing methods
Group exercises
(titles + descriptions are renamed/worded/mixed for easy digestion)
- Annotation as interruption annotating a reader with emojis as indicators for side notes/thoughts/references that morphed into reader 2.0
- Text traverse + keyword geotag selecting, rearranging and performing text from multiple readers to form a new one based on keyword repetition
- Spellcheck letter ghosting part of a group exercise on slow processing a linguistic pattern from a soliloquy
- Magic spells text processing with special commands for a collaborative spell book
- From pad to bubbles converting a chaotic text into a calmer but still fun one in the form and flow of chat bubbles
- Audio → text → translation → ? multitasking processes of transcribing an audio recording then generating translations in Greek and Thai then TBD
Experiments
(click at your own risk––some links may prompt a download instead of a preview on the XPUB1 soupboat. To be fixed..)
- TextEdit and macOS Spoken Content: processing text from a sound art piece via transcription and text to speech in the voices of Whisper, Kanya, and more
- Google Translate scan with a doodle and pinch-to-zoom image of text from multiple readers
Observations
- automated–accidental/manual processes
- synchronous–asynchronous executions
- offline mode vs. realtime processing
- system (+ human) personalities/behaviors
- human-machine miscommunication
- processing speeds: relay/delay
- processing orientation/organization: linear/modular
- audio settings: selection, items under the pointer, typing feedback
- translation types: a → a, a → b, a + b → c, c → d
