Unpack the important and complex issue of me putting something upon the women that's not there
-> Berger: Every image embodies a way of seeing. The photographers way of seeing is reflected in his choice of subject. Yet, although every image embodies a way of seeing, our perception or appreciation of an image depends also upon our own way of seeing. The images become part of an argument which has little or nothing to do with its original independent meaning. The power of mechanical images.

My latest work WORLDPEACE has been a changing point in my practice as an artist working with photography. For the first time I work with found footige which I appropriate and re-mediate. The work consists of a series of images of beauty queens in their crowning moments. Zooming in on ecstatic faces emotions of extreme joy and happiness transform into something else. The images are presented larger than life-sized, standing on the floor.

Starting point for my latest work were my feelings of overwhelming disbelief to recent political and social developments that effect me emotionally. The work WORLDPEACE explores the impact of ecstatic emotions stripped of their original context. It consists of a series of appropriated and remediated images taken from American beauty pageants. The images concentrate on the very moment of the crowning of the beauty queens. Zooming in on their frantic faces, emotions of extreme joy and happiness transform into something else that seems to foreshadow doom. The images are presented larger than life-sized, standing on the floor, ideally surrounding the spectator.
