Scarcity of Diskspace

  • Occasion

Underneath my scribbles of my idea. They idea about 'Scarcity of Disk Space' is driven by personal frustration. Since years I'm running out of disk space. I get at least once a month the warning “Your startup disk is almost full”? And what to do when that happens? My assumption is that I’m not the only one. I/m struggling with all the online (drive, dropbox, owncloud, etc) & offline (usb’s harddrives, NAS, etc) storage possibilities. My information is scattered all over the place, let alone who has access to it. Last Christmas I bought a NAS. Although since recently I managed to set it up, and approach it from outside my house. But who else can do so ;) Not sure if I protected it well. The latter is not really something I want to research further though. But honestly how often did it happen to you, that you get the warning “Your startup disk is almost full”?

  • Research approach

Research around disk space, both offline and online. Make an inventory of disk space available offline and it's history https://www.flickr.com/photos/windkoh/6631418675/. Make an inventory of online disk space, and document all the ways services like Dropbox bargain extra space in exchange of promotion: http://trendblog.net/get-free-dropbox-space/. Compile a questionnaire and send it around amongst network. It might be interesting to draw a conceptual link with the rhetoric of “paperwork explosion” that was used to promote digitalization in the first place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IZw2CoYztk

What I’m expecting to find is still unclear. I hope to find some interesting relations while analyzing the data. Any suggestions on this, possible leads, suggestions. Let me know your thoughts.
