Writting an essais about a project we did. WHY HOW WHHY
The project I will talk about, is a photography/editorial project I made last year. Unfortunately the project was created just after a tragic story. Two years ago, one of my dearest friend killed herself in her apartment, it was around Christmas.
I always think life is a coincidence of things and, when this tragedy took place I had to do a photography project, the theme was « the time ». You will agree with me it’s at first side a really large theme.
The project has really began when we return in her apartment. No traces were in it anymore. We knew how, when and where she did her last act in the apartment. But still we were sitting on the living room, alone. I thought about the image of the apartment and I ask myself, would I be returning here after this moment ? I didn’t know what to answer to that, because I felt I wouldn’t never come back. I had my camera on me and I began to capture all the rooms of the apartment. Nothing personal was left in it. No personality was on the picture, only space. After doing this, I began to read some essais about what kind of feelings we can feel for house, home, place. I was t thinking about the apartment as a protagonist of all this story, as we all were (friend family..)
The life around me was still going on and the memory of this empty apartment seems to me at this time the only rampart again time passing. I was writing texts during all the time I creating this project. I was trying to catch something uncatchable by reading, photography and writing The process of developing film picture was for me the perfect image of what can be a mourning, a souvenir. At first you don’t know how much time you have to put a light on but more and more you learn how to control it, like your development. I know we are supposed to talk about methods which are normally made before to begin the project, but I found interesting to talk to you about this one because they created each other. It was only when the project was over I realized all the objects and mediums that were involved in it, and I believe it was subconscience decisions.
