FUTURE MAP - Brain Holmes

Holmes starts his inventory about a dystopian presence with a question by norbert wiener, "Can God play significant game with his own creature?" The god as a metaphor for the engineer who maybe lose the game with his invention. Wiener wracked of his conscience of his research during the second worldwar and that his golem(creature) emerged from this period. His counterpart, von Neumann, used for his creature game-theory for analysing if all possible decisions of each player, Wieners creature consist "statistical analysis of stochastic process, and a policy of continuous error-correction". Following Holmes, brought us the Wiener golem to a new form of surveillance because similar concepts of unity of man and machine can we find in ourself in todays society.

A headtracking system, a datamining-tool for analysing of behavior, the largest consumer database as a customer relationship managment system and a video tracking system for the analysis of customers movement in shop - on the basis of this four technological system he points out that we can say "goodbye" to the public/private differentiation. In his sense are this technologies that what with foucault means "securtiy devices". And cited Foucault again, ..."whereby the economic activity of a population is both optimized and protected against disruption" and that we moved in a postindustrial age. Knowable by in the words of Foucault "the system of correlation between juridico-legal mechanisms, disciplinary mechanisms, and mechanisms of security."

The shift to the cybernetic surveillance brings Holmes to an interpretation of different science-fiction movies like Matrix, Truman Show or Minority Report, where different Foucault's notion are already visible. The fictional dystopian situations of the movies brought him to the political agenda of the noughties in this century. In the gloomily analysis of the present state, is Holmes finishing his text with still some hope. He appealed on the social function of art, the reuse(missuse) of technology and the synergy of different discipline.
