Deathcore is a fusion genre, which combines death metal characteristics such as blast beats, down-tuned guitars, tremolo picking, and growled vocals with metalcore characteristics such as breakdowns, melodic riffs and high-pitched screamed vocals.

The machine is built to highlight how "simple" it can be nowaday to start to play deathcore without the need to actually learn how to play an acustic instrument, and how easy it can be to compose a deathcore song on the spot.

This musical writing machine has been built in MAX 9 by implementing "Deathcore Soundboard" VST of vocal samples, heavy guitar riffs samples and a metalcore drum track, all collected for free from the internet.

What are the "core" elements needed for a song to sound Deathcore?

1st: The tempo. I went for 180bpm.

2nd: Heavy n' groovy guitar riffs with distorsion ofc.

3rd: A drum track at the set tempo.

4th: Growly, harsh and guttural vocals characterised also by pig squeals and swear words.

Every single sample was hand-mapped to a button on my midi LaunchPAD, which was then played live to compose a deathcore song on the spot.

The selection of samples is up to the self.

Fun Fact: This WM has been built in just 3h the day before the radio broadcast that took place Nov 10th 2025.
