Magnets

A series of magnets of different scale and shape that you can carry around to mess up various electronics. (1) To tear some seams into the "smooth now". Make evident the dependency of machines all over, evoke some sense of need to not rely on them entirely in our life (2)

Find out if this is just bullshit by researching magnets, find different everyday looking objects (phone cover, an actual credit card, a USB stick), find out how can they accommodate a strong magnet, find out how to tell if this works by trying the magnets on different devices, find out how to avoid the magnet being "exposed/on" at all times to avoid corrupting your own devices (maybe a case of a speciifc material?) (3)

Probably a month if done mainly, three if this is secondary or tertiary project.(4)

OS delete (videogame)

- What is it?

A game with real stakes: deletes part of your OS on failures

- Why?

Something that would generate those real life anxiety stakes of losing something important (even if, most is probably not important, since you never think about it)

- Workflow

Interview people about how they felt/would feel about loosing data/ the possibility to access data

Just move all your data somewhere else and then guide the player to "restoring" them.

Several months, making a game is a bliss and a curse at the same time.

Stretching at work

Make a zine that shares simple stretching you could do to move your body (1).

Sometimes you do too much computer and your back starts to resemble the Golden Rule, our bodies are not made to sit or lay for too long, yet we do it and we end up in pain (2).

I would start by researching a bit on muscles, movement and on posture. I would then try to take pictures or videos of myself doing the movements I find to then draw the in between steps.

After collecting information, visual material I would put everything in a zine (3).

data deletion workshop

A workshop/talk about deleting data (1)

In the culture sector push for archiving data by mentioning all of the most clice' things. If you really want to archive data, write things on a piece of paper.

Archiving is important but let's talk about forgetting from time to time. Let's explore different ways in which you could forget! (and unconver some common misconceptions). (2)

install party linux montana

A linux install party with a twist (1). People online are pressed about hannah montana linux, so let's trigger some open-tech bros. Install parties made shitposting to have people learn a simple skill.(hopefully without the fear of the tech context) (2)

Get a lot of usb sticks (or have people bring their own), make trash posters (that include a "make a backup" if people bring their own computers) + stickers (Kali Linux < Hanna Montana Linux), make workstations with people that can support (the goal would be also have people help each other). Show how to have a normal usb after prepairing it for the os installation. (3)

Tic-Tac-Toernament

Inspired by the snake plotter game (Joseph), make a game with the dot matrix printers. (1)

I'm very happy to see old tech re-purposed (2), I was thinking of simple games that could be nice to see printed to kind of record a history of the session(s).

In general

I Imagined the workflow as: find a way to code the game, find a way to save a game (match) to a file, print the file everytime the game is over. Once this is covered multiply this in multiple communicating dot matrix printers, which are also connceted to something else that prints a live scoreboard.

In detail

Make it possible to choose roles and usernames, add a commentator for fun (like sports telecronaca*), make it so that the winner is able to write a message, have a scoreboard print out, which also shows the message of the players (bonus: use the options of the dotmatrix to print side by side instead of vertically, to better use the space)

If all of the previous points are covered, add a menu and modes like 1v1, 1v1 best of 3 etc.

if really really everything else is covered, online mode in a hacky way with wall or tmux. (3)

Did a working tic tac toe in the terminal, there are still some things to do before adding the commentator and the rest, so I would say that I am still at step 1. (5)

Computer Upgrade

A computer that everytime that upgrades with newer, better features, makes you give up or worsen* others (ex: more memory, less pictures available in your gallery) (1). It is too easy to always think of a better faster device that gives you the possibility of doing more and more, the overproduction of tech is extractive and damaging to the world so you cannot continue to always scale up. (2)
