My main question, and I admit - it's something I don't know. Is what am I trying to express. I do not know. What I wrote down during making, amongst many, many other things is this "''I've been working on a film about a place where we we hide, we push, we discover, we smuggle, we love, we converge, we escape. It is a place which has always been suppressed, hidden, whispered about, forbidden, guarded, lied about and misinterpreted.''". | My main question, and I admit - it's something I don't know. Type up text from the wall writing, and attempt to write a 'text on practice' paragraph from this.
PLAN
Type up from the wall, and then derive a paragraph.
WRITE UP
How to allow or show or illustrate to everyone that this isn’t about a time travelling being, but just a different way of looking at things. My main references here are: Flights, Stalker and Solaris. Particularly the Zone and Sea of solaris . It is holding two juxtaposing ideas in your hand and the same time. This is a place present throughout time. It’s a place in which we hide, we push, we discover, we smuggle, we love, we converge, we escape. It is a place which has always been suppressed, hidden, whispered about, forbidden, guarded, lied about and misinterpreted. I’ve been thinking about the things that are to be hidden that or the things which are pushed underground, the darkness is a place of love and fear. “The darkest point shines the brightest” (Jon Fosse, The Other Name). I have now thought about McGilchrists first book L\R. about suppression of the right, this is worth investigating. The idea of mystery (mystery), using that in a spiritual setting - the finger that points at the moon, the space for the mystery, This is somewhat of an obsession of mine. It is the idea of secrets, the idea of keeping things hush. Forgotten histories, untold or whispered. The moments that are not mentioned. Why, who did it is not really the question it is more, lets listen - now. Let us gather. Let us resist linear time. As arc said. Resist the notion of time given to us, let me invite you to another time. There’s an estate problem - I just said estate because I wrote ‘an’ instead of ‘a’. It’s the whole , it I think should react to my voice. This means tomorrow (9th Fev) I should try this in Touch designer. Please, Tokarczuk speaks about caves at the end of the Books of Jacob - now, I realise the religious analogy. The cave is one of the (think greek or hindu) gods of analogy, always in the shadow of the sun, moon, mountain and wood and wind. Perhaps this is the forgotten and importance of the cave in thought and image as well. Laura and Muyang said to see as much as possible (Laura), everything can look the same (Muyang). I think it’s probably worth writing about - how the works seem to be slightly emotionally distance. I’m wondering if I think about the medium enough? If that could somehow release more - if considering the medium is somehow a standard. Great shorts of story, the emotion of that quiet moment.
- What have you been making?
- How did you do it? (method)
- Relation to previous practice
- What do you want to make next?
- Why do you want to make it?
RESULTS
What have you been making? =I begun to make a film which sort to explore the use of caves and holes throughout history, spanning from the smuggling of contraband in 1700s through to ZeroDays. The idea came as a results of my reading and listening activities (This is How They Tell Me The World Ends, a book about the Zero Day Market), and walking along the South East Coast on England. Along this coast there are constant references to it's historical link to smuggling, often dubbed 'smugglers country'. These holes, I thought, in software and these caves in the cliffs share a physicality and, it could be said, are contained within the same history.
My main question, and I admit - it's something I don't know. Is what am I trying to express. I do not know. What I wrote down during making, amongst many, many other things is this "I've been working on a film about a place where we we hide, we push, we discover, we smuggle, we love, we converge, we escape. It is a place which has always been suppressed, hidden, whispered about, forbidden, guarded, lied about and misinterpreted.".
I set out, to explore this connection or analogy. Unsure if it would at all be succesfull. I knew I wanted to make it into a some narrative work.
FINDINGS
I've written quite little on the wall in that certain section, typing is obviosuly much fast for me. So why write, perhaps what I have written is maybe what I think is important. Or it's just off the top of my head...
