Right now I am working on a project for EYE museum. I am making it out of necessity, rather than personal interest, therefore, currently, I lack the passion for it. In turn, the idea is scattered and yet to be finished. For now, I am thinking of doing a short and experimental video art-work mixed with animated visuals. I am planning to do it about the idea of being lonely, while, seemingly, not being able to be alone anywhere. I want to relate it to living as a foreigner in the Netherlands, where there is a dense population and a lack of open empty spaces or natural wilderness to escape to.

Even though primarily, I am making this project out of obligation, I chose this topic because it correlates with my personal experience. I feel lonely substantially, however, no matter where I go, I cannot escape the crowds of people and the overwhelming sensations that come with them. Back home we have a lot of natural forests and vacant areas within the city range, where the possibility of meeting anyone else is quite low.

Even though the Netherlands have parks and natural resorts, etc., a majority of them are man made and structured in a way that may seem forced and mechanical. As a foreigner, feelings of isolation are inseparable from the experience of living abroad. However, the lack of natural atmospheres, accentuates this feeling by design. Natural wilderness does not judge, it belongs to the earth, not the people, therefore coming into nature as you are feels safe and freeing. Man made nature, on the other hand, feels like an extension of a town that was not made for you and that does not care about you.

Session 1

What are you making?

Right now I am thinking of doing a project for AI musem, I am thinking of doing also a short experimental video art piece mix with animated visuals. I am planning to do it about a concept of being lonely, but lonely in a way to be lonely but not finding anyone, about the forestation in the Netherlands, how humans are connected to the nature and how here nature is lacking wilderness.

Why are you making it?

It feels scatleered for now but that’s because I am still thinking of making it. And I am making it because I have to, but why did I chose that is because I feel lonely here a lot of times, back home we have a lot of forest and people are everywhere. In a differetn country you feel this was not made for you, but in real nature you can just be. Here it’s hard to escape people, even in parks people are everywhere. Here trees are put to form like a robot forest. How does it relate to other things you have done?

Almost all the other things all kind of relates back to the topic of subconcious and psychology, to more sad feelings. Also a technique, because I want to make a video also add animations, like a mix.

How is it different to other things you have done?

So I am planning on intrewieving people, also planning to see nature resorts, also film with a camera, which I have never done before. And I alsways wanted to mix animated visuals with real video. Also the topic is based on the history of the Netherlands, maybe it involves more technical research and this topic than I usually do.

What are the most significant choices have you made recently?

I got a job. I made a choice to also use archive videos, and maybe use AI doing a video. Just collecting AI videos and make a collection yourself. Haven’t started on this yet but I think it’s interesting.
