disclaimer: this is a proposal so it can be edited as we want, collectively.
hello dear friends
In the last weeks it happened that we discussed a bit about how to keep in contact during this graduation year, how not to feel disconnected and to find ways to help each other. I have something to propose to all of you.
This proposal definitely needs everyone's agreement because I think it means that we, all of us, will share our personal thoughts and insights, and to do so we have to be sure that this space will be safe and free of any type of judgment. And that everyone feels comfortable in doing such a thing.
what
My proposal is a collective notebook: a space that everyone can use to share their thoughts, ideas, troubles or experiences. A space where everyone can share a daily experience, maybe the feeling of a walk in the sun, how much they enjoyed the breakfast club of the week, how they couldn't get out of bed or struggles or amazing ideas about the graduation project. A space where we can share problems (but not only HEY!) and find solutions with the help of others.
A space that could become our joined travel's documentation through this last year of XPUB together.
how
1. The notebook will be everyone's notebook for a week. Then it will move to the next person that will be able to read, if they want, or do their part of annotation. On Monday's class the first person will receive it and every Monday the notebook will be delivered to the next person. And then again.
2. Everyone can use the notebook as they want, start writing where they want and in any direction they feel like. See the <<which notebook>> section for more practical details.
3. Don't feel forced. If you have nothing to say that's also okay. You can also draw, stick a leaf or a sticker on the page, leave a comments for others or just read.
4. The only rule is write down dates so that we can feel the time flow and be updated correctly.
5. As in a pad, I would invite you to immerse yourself in other people's pages, to draw on their drawings, to write on their writings, to stick leaves on other people's leaves. Feel free to leave an advice, a reference to read about, a nice artwork you thought about, or just a care note.
6. No need to be recognisable, so you can use the pens or pencils or markers you like, also every time different.
why
The first reason is that through this object everyone will be able to take some minutes (or hours lol) of their life to get out of all the confusion of this messy world, and focus on how they feel in that exact moment. And maybe they will write it down. That already helps.
The second reason is that in this way, everyone will know where the others are at and receive a little bit of other people's lives. I feel this would be nice not to feel disconnected, both from our work but also from our living.
The third reason, but not less important, is that we have 11 brains that contain a lot of information and references. Why not taking advantage out of this and help each other by sharing our knowledge? If you read something in the notebook that makes you think about a work or a book that could help the person, if an idea comes to you that could help the other to move on with their work, share it! And if it'll be useless, that's also fine. Just share.
The fourth is how cool will it be that at the end we will have an overview of the year that comes from a different point of view than the final outcome we will present to the tutors? That shows our thoughts, connections, feelings, struggles, experiences and care therapy?
which notebook
I feel we need a notebook that is small enough to move around with all of us, but also that leaves us space to play and express ourselves. I think that the prototype I showed during the M&Ms could be a nice option, so that everyone can shape the notebook as they want and use the paper (that will fit their fav pen) that they want. The only rule would be that the size must fit so that the notebook can still close to its initial size).
Obviously, I am totally open to any proposal or modification you can think of, so please share.
when do we start
I think we could start from next week on Monday 17th October 2022, if I manage to have everyone's approval.
If someone is not sure about it, please share your doubts (in person or below).
feel free to leave some comments.. and let me know if you're up for it!
