I want to make photographs intimate moments I am experiencing, ( n bed with my partner) small details that fix in memories. I want to arrange ways which tell a story. I want to experiment with arrangements of images in order to convey emotion and tell a story. I want to draw on the visual language of cinema, such as 80s Asian cinema. These have a particular colour range: soft and yet with harsh lighting, the people have a melancholy mood. I will also draw on the influence of asian photographers who use a similar aesthetic (warm greens, red and yellow) These images put the viewer in a particular place (a nostalgic)

What do you want to make? In my previous work I’ve experimented a lot with creating cinematic scenes, almost like a screenshot out of a movie. This I ultimately created with the goal of this particular analysis but with very safe subjects and compositions. Key to my work will be the subject of memory; I would like to recreate moments of intimacy. I want them t be universally relatable (specific moments that we all share [a slice of life). [show examples of work] I want to make photographs intimate moments I am experiencing, ( n bed with my partner) small details that fix in memories. I will also draw on the influence of asian photographers who use a similar aesthetic (warm greens, red and yellow) These images put the viewer in a particular place (a nostalgic) [place examples here visual. In this experiment I have taken several images and rearranged them to tell a story] I want to shoot digital and create an analogue style.[how so?] A study on intimacy as it pertains to connections, emotions or complete lack thereof. I want to create a slice of life type analyzation that shows an intensity in the dullness or excitement of every moment. [write about what you can MAKE]

How do you plan to make it? The focus of this analysis will be on composition and lighting; how they can create an intensity in the image and/or convey a certain emotion. A way I want to create the elusive emotion in my work is to invite the viewer to partly interpret the work in a way that is shaped by their own life experiences. For this I will mostly be experimenting with close and intens compositions, sort of implying what is happening but not entirely revealing the situation. These compositions will still be revealing an intimate and vulnerable subject, but only slightly. What I’m also interested in is what these compositions can do narratively when combined.

What is your timetable? My plan is to start with the subject matter I have most readily available; me. I want to experience what it’s like to have these vulnerable parts of my life out for everyone to see so as to relate to the subjects I would like to photograph in the future. For me it’s scary as well, so I will be starting out pretty tame and try to push my boundaries to more uncomfortable subjects.

Why do you want to make it? I’ve always been interested in art that makes me feel and think, but especially feel. In the past I’ve never been quite able to pinpoint why a certain artwork makes me feel a certain type of way, but I discovered that the art that I feel hits me the most emotionally is art that I can relate my experiences or just intens moments of emotion to, almost like an intens nostalgia. That’s what I would like to convey in my work as well.

Who can help you and how? People that I have a close emotional connection with and someone who has the experience in visual storytelling and especially the emotional side of that.

Relation to a larger context The larger context to which this work would ultimately relate to would be to create art that has an emotional relatability to almost everyone.

References/bibliography Aesthetically/slice of life moments In the mood for love (200) Minari (2021) My neighbour Totoro (1988) Sideways (2004) It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood (2019)

I choose these movies as my references because some of them have a very slice of life element to them. Scenic/cinematographic and story wise I feel like they can have a relatability to different types of people because they can be interpreted in your own way, while still having a concrete idea of what is happening.
