Tips for the future
posters and postcards
- Both posters and postcards are important for promotion. Some places prefer one over the other
- Print 200-300 posters and 500 postcards. These disappear in no time, reprinting takes extra time (& money)
- Almost all promotional posters are A2. Venues which like to promote posters in frames only have A2-sized frames. Also, hanging posters in a different size among other A2 posters may be difficult in some venues
- Do not leave posters / postcards at Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Schouwburgplein 25, 3012 CL) - these get removed
- Best locations (very welcome) to leave posters / postcards:
- Boijmans Museum
- Het Nieuwe Institute
- Kunsthal
- Leeszaal Rotterdam West
- V2
- all along Meent
- all along Nieuwebinnenweg
- Look into all locations of Hogeschool Rotterdam to leave posters / postcards (Rochussenstraat, Museumpark, Pieter de Hoochweg, Lloydstraat, Oceaanhuis, Wijnhaven)
- Hogeschool Rotterdam has strict regulations about leaving posters / postcards in the school buildings - logo of the school needs to be big and clear otherwise they do not accept
- When creating posters / postcards make sure the logos of the venue of the launch, as well as Piet Zwart Institute and Hogeschool Rotterdam are all on there
starting a marketing strategy - tips from a marketing major
1 VOICE
- what's our mission statement?
- what’s unique about your team?
- what’s special about your project?
- how do you want to be regarded by customers and your community?
2 IDENTITY
- what is the name?
- what visuals will bring out the best out of the message we are trying to communicate?
- how will the project identity match the visual identity online?
3 CONTENT (GENERAL)
- list all topics / types of posts that could be communicated
4 DIVISION OF CATEGORIES (PERCENTAGES)
- looking at the list of topics, divide how much attention should each one get
5 GENERATE CONTENT (FIND)
- decide how many posts a day / per week - will it increase with time?
- check whether the percentages roughly match the amount of posts planned
6 SCHEDULE
- find a scheduling site that is easy for you and is versatile
- Later is great, but only for Instagram
- Hootsuite is versatile for all
social media and the web
- discuss the content that will be posted with the entire group
- take time to discuss how the identity of the project and online presence will complete one another
- hootsuite is a great tool to schedule posts across different social media platforms
- finding out what time users of different social media platforms are most active is very important
- facebook users are active in the first half of the day - 9AM, 1PM, 3PM (1PM being most effective in reaching many views)
- instagram users are more active at night and schedule is found to be more complex (disregard the posts in the early AM's - those are party photos)
- Sunday: 5:00 p.m.
- Monday: 7:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m.
- Tuesday: 3:00 a.m. & 10:00 p.m.
- Wednesday: 5:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 7:00 a.m. & 11:00 p.m.
- Friday: 1:00 a.m. & 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 12:00 a.m. & 2:00 a.m.
- hootsuite doesn't manage with gif or video - those need to be done manually
- facebook allows hootsuite to post without permission - that is done automatically
- instagram does not allow hoot suite (or any scheduling site/app) to post without permission - be aware of push notifications to not miss the scheduled post
- list all social media platforms and decide how many and which ones will be used
- look into pushing the social media content through the PZI website - how could we manipulate it for different scheduling to work?
- plan what the purpose of the website could be - blog / only info / readers upload their own content?
- how could online content be archived?
outside of social media and the web
- make a list of all random possibilities to promote a project / event (tote bags / drones / flash mob / usb sticks / pigeons?)
- connect with launch venue / partner involved to see how we could collaborate with promotion
- contact / meet face-to-face with influential people who could help promote
other
- always save online meeting notes (ether pad) offline
- make to-do lists every week to keep track of all tasks
- reflect on to-do lists on a regular basis - are they achievable? how could tasks be divided equally?

Keep a look out for our trimestrial publications!
OP=OP is our first trimestrial XPUB publication. Our small team consists of creatives from diverse backgrounds, fields and interests. Our current focus is on scarcity of resources - we question our economic system with the use of a game. ‘OP=OP’ is the Dutch alternative to 'while supply last’ - which we all know causes people to buy by impulse. Stay tuned about our final preparations and get to know us better. Come to our launch on the 10th of December at Worm, Rotterdam, and join in the game!
