As a child I spend my Summers in Brandenburg, a forgotten part of Germany, wrapping the capital city Berlin like a belt. There is nothing going on in Brandenburg, many left the place to life elsewhere, only few stores remained. We used to pick up seasonal vegetables on our way, that neighbours put on a little table in front of their house. Unsupervised, next to it there was a small bowl where everyone chipped in what they had in exchange for the food. I vividly remember the dim light in the car - it didnt have an AC so my parents used to stick wet towels to the windows.

I also remember the smell. Once we arrived and got out of the car, dry and warm, you could smell the pines before you saw them. Southern Brandenburgs forests are not pretty, pine monocultures with very little species diversity besides mosquitos, ants and occasionally a fox.

Most of our time we did spent at the lake. It's called 'Tiefer See' - the deep lake.
