General application requirements
- must be dutch national or strongly embedded in the NL art scene
- artist CV - exhibitions, screenings, group shows, residencies, collaborations - will prove elligibility
- artist statement - define practice
- it takes 12 months to reset an application
- the money is seen as income - so subject to income tax
- Post-grad - Rijks, Jan van Eyck - can't recieve mondriaan while there
Artist-Start
- apply within 1-4 years after graduating - or two years after graduating from MFA with a differen BA
- lump sum 22,000euro
- plan for how to develop practice - residencies, material costs, production, research, travel

Evaluation Criteria
- Artistic Quality - is the project original? does it contribute to contemporary discourse? is it meaningful and impactful?
- Capability - do you have what it takes? Does it make sense for your previous experience?
- Feasability - is the budget appropriate? Who's the crew? Have you thought about all your collaborators?
- Progress Indicator - e.g. once you secure a producer for a film (thats a progress indicator); perhaps you have a pilot of a scene filmed
- Check the assessment criteria and really consider whether you're answering every question

- start with the concrete reality (or the conclusion) not the beginning. Don't be deductive. Be clear and explainatory
- You dont know the jurors - dont use art speak - consider your audience - be personal and clear - dont be intelligent - use simple sentences and be as clear as possible
- Clarity - limit jargon and art speak, consider yours is one of many. How would you pitch it to your parents?

- whats the project? What do you want to achieve. Give step by step goals: e.g. 1) refining the scope of the project 2) develop a participatory and ethical film practice 3) create a photo diary and find locations for deeper investigation 4) presenting as an exhibition or publication
- describe what you're doing during the grant period
- describe the outcomes / goals
- everyone has interdisciplinary projects now - so you have to be very simple, precise, and detailed.

CONTEXTS
- describe who you are, which ideas you're working with
- your personal motivation and broader context
PROJECT DESCRIPTION (the what)
- Give more detail about the project - dont be vague
- is it single channel? Multi-channel
- if you dont know what youre doing - just make it up - give some options e.g. it could be a documentary or it could be a film that looks like this... +
- Give the juror some mental images we can work with
OUTCOMES (the why?)
- what are the expected results
- the big significance
METHODOLOGY (how?)
- this section should respons directly to outcome -how will you achieve those results
- timeline ... in march, april, may
IMPACT ON CAREER / MERIT
- how is this building on your work
- what is it adding to your portfolio
- maybe its for a show so you need funding for a show
- maybe you move from video art to working with a crew and production company
- maybe now its a very personal film - youre making yourself really vulnerable
- are there new challenges or artistic risks? maybe you're filming abroad, or you need a translator.
- It needs to feel like its a big step for the artist
- Will you learn anything from this?
COMMUNICATION & PRESENTATION
- Publications, talks, open studios, talks,
- who is your audience? art audience, which community? are you trying to make work for a more general audience? VPRO?
