I will look at the subjects separately and then try to connect them via via. They already are relatable in small ways, and I intend on making that connection more profound. This summer I am reading multiple texts regarding the three subjects, and will work on the connections within the theory. Exploring the relationship between me and my digital screens through different practical experiments, I’m trying to take the relationship between digital screens and humans further to the participatory effect within media and ‘violation’ of privacy, because I think they are connected. By reading different theories and continue the practical experiments I can create a concept that explores the three subjects in one.

I want to build an installation in which I bring these aspects together, without mentioning them. I want to the public to experience the aspects in their negative and positive ways. Because these subjects are digitally oriented, the public doesn’t see any difference if I make them digital as well. I want to take them back to the analogue so the public can experience them in different ways.

A hallway that goes on for 1 km. In this hallway are about 50 screens. Every 1 meter there are big stripes of paper that block your way, you can take these papers of to continue down the hallway, otherwise you have to go back. After you have taken them down and continued down the path, the stripes will re attach themselves.
On the screens there will be many different views of a person. The further you go down the path, the further you go into the persons life. Next to that though, the public walking down the path will have to pay attention because in the hallway are notes of what happens when you take of the next pair of stripes and continue. It comes with consequences. Each one meter you continue, you add a consequence to the list by agreeing to continue.
When you are near the end of the hall, the screens become more valuable as well. Alongside the private aspect of the hall, the relationship with technology becomes deeper and less detached than before. Added to this will be the way the hallway is build, it becomes bigger and bigger in the end (in width) and behind every stripe will be the multiple amount of screens. At the end of the hallway you will meet your consequence, and you can leave via the escape door.

Subjects of research: - Relationship between technology and humans (The Second Self – Sherry Turkle / A Cyborg Manifesto - Donna Haraway) - Privacy and the Participatory culture of the digital age (The Work of Being Watched – Mark Andrejevic / How to Dissapear from BIG BROTHER – Frank M. Ahearn)

(tentative)Me and My Best Friends – A documentary/installation that explores the bond between a person and her digital screens. A reality tv drama that follows the daily life of a person that lives only with her screens and through her screens. What happens when instead of a new screen, an extra human comes to live in the reality house? This reality tv show is meant to be watched on all your screens at once. Each screen will display a different aspect of the show.

“Conditions” Subjects of research: - Relationship between technology and humans (The Second Self – Sherry Turkle / A Cyborg Manifesto - Donna Haraway) - Privacy and the Participatory culture of the digital age (The Work of Being Watched – Mark Andrejevic / How to Dissapear from BIG BROTHER – Frank M. Ahearn)
