Archiving Nicole Hametner "Oscilating Shadows"
This documentation of Nicole Hametners Oscilating Shadows has been a documentation which is aimed on depicting the process of thought and progress of the installation itself. Nicole Hametners poetic and philosphic way of overthinking subjects and approaching her practice is very fascinating. This booklet is aimed at showing this process.
An artwork is often the product of a research process. Such researches can be theorertical, visual, intuitive etc etc. Often a large part of the research and process that foreruns the product is not visible . In my opninion this is a shame. Tests and experiments that have been done, the contemplations, the conclusions that were made are often very interesting. Whilst talking with Nicole I found out that her research has a very philosophical and theoretical background. The way her concept was forming over the months was very interesting and my aim was to capture this in the documentation.
In the book that I produced for the documentation I made several steps of the process visible by choosing for a material that was transparant. In this way the next step in the process would be visible in the previous. For the documentation I interviewed her several times over a period of a couple of months. The transcripts for this I formed in a way that with every step the text became more structured. I choose several photos from different parts of the process and I placed them behind each other so the next experiment is visible in the previous. And finally I integrated excerpts of parts of the research she has done.
