Campy qualities: overdoing gender performance
Starting point for my project ''WORLDPEACE'' is a feeling of overwhelming disbelief towards recent political and social developments such Trump becoming the American president as well as the rising of right tendencies in Europe.

The body of work consists of a series of appropriated images shot at American beauty pageants. The pictures focus on the very moment of the crowning of the beauty queens. Zoomed in on their frantic faces I explore the impact of exstatic emotions stripped of their original context. Extreme joy and happiness transcend themselves into something that seems to foreshadow doom.

February 5, 2017 - Artist Statement

Starting point for my project WORLDPEACE is a feeling of overwhelming disbelief towards recent political and social developments such Trump becoming the American president as well as the rising of right tendencies in Europe.

The larger than life-sized images are standing on the floor, ideally surrounding the spectator in a circle.

Unpack the important and complex issue of me putting something upon the women that's not there

-> Berger: Every image embodies a way of seeing. The photographers way of seeing is reflected in his choice of subject. Yet, although every image embodies a way of seeing, our perception or appreciation of an image depends also upon our own way of seeing. The images become part of an argument which has little or nothing to do with its original independent meaning. The power of mechanical images.
