A PROJECT THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE MADE 8-05-2024

What A dance film in nature. I want to make a dansfilm in the nature of ibiza, together with dancers Izi Stevens and Nathalie van de Hombergh. The work will be around 5 minutes long and filmed at different locations trough out Ibiza. This dance film will be a search for comparison between the body and nature. Experimenting with composition and interaction. The moving body gets inspired by the rhythm of the plants and sea moving by the wind. And how the wind touches the sea and the sea the rocks. The nature of ibiza consists of a lot of caves, water and wind, which will be the mean elements we will work with. There also is a focus on the body. It will be portrait in a natural and pure way. The clothing will be a nude look, something like underwear or a dress. The sound will be natural sounds of the environment, like sounds of water and wind. As well as sounds of the body touching and interacting with the different textures of the landscape and breath.

Why In my practice I’m working on the question how do I to make work that not only shows dance and movement, but let the whole work feel like or embody movement/dance choreography. With this project I want to experiment with the relationship and connection of the body with the environment. Working with camera movement and having the camera ‘become’ the body that is moving in space. I’m also interested in how we look and see the body. I want to expand this practice by portraying the body in different perspectives and compositions in comparison to nature.

How In the summer I will go to Ibiza for a week. Izi is scouting some locations and sending me pictures so we can choose a couple of locations. We are having weekly communication leading up to the filming days to give the project shape. To make a framework for some direction, because the working method will be pretty much on the go and creating on the spot. The dancing will be improvisation. We are creating tasks of interaction. Interaction with the location for example, dance with a rock, have contact with the water or a cave wall, Respond to outside Impulses and mimic the movements of the plants or the sea with your body. Key words are feeling, connecting responding. A conversation between nature and the body. As for the movements we have set some guideline for movement qualities as a starting point or something to fall back on when needed. The dancers are training with the following elements: Feminine energy: because they are a lot of women on the eiland they feel the urge to get in tough with their feminine side more. Staccato: A movement quality that comes natural, so that they can dive deeper into this. Breaking certain movements and patterns: When you’re improvising there are always movements that come back every time. The challenge is to not use them. Each day we will go to a different location. We will be filming in the morning and evenings because of the heat.
