Week 44
As far as the project goes right now, it is about creating an active spirit to speak up rather than stay silent. The value of speech as it were. and it has an angry undertone. afterwards I read this interesting quote in the McQueen book I got: "There is a hidden agenda in the fragility of romance. It's like the Story of O. I'm not big on women looking naïve. There has to be a sinister aspect, whether it's melancholy or sadomasochist." This I find extremely inspiring since I rarely go into the sinister dark aspect and prefer going towards the positive colorful side of design In this term I would really like to expand on this non-passive statement creating through video, which I'm finding more and more to be my new medium over photography and graphic printing. For now I use graphic print as the opposite to the video. As to state the tension between passive and active media. Literally found in static versus movement.
- November 2nd Final Annotation about the documentary Paragraph 175
- November 5th notes on Alexander McQueen - Savage Beauty
I'd also like to think about a line to give the piece more of a train of thought Working inside a space has always sparked my interest. To create this intimate -though public- setting/stage where the "utopia" is activated. So far I got: "If in our utopia we would have the freedom to speak our mind, why do we believe that silence is golden"
The next step for me would be to incorporate text in video as well. Barend also mentioned I should maybe try this instead of using the text on the wall as a separate piece. He felt it might be too explanatory. So that's something to experiment with.
Week 43

Working on mastering silkscreen ;)

Project Proposal
I want to make portraits this term in both photographs and short clips. Catching a lot of different expressions and "state of minds". All in the search of exposing the unique and special, often considered weaknesses of our nature.
Eventually presenting a collection of these expressions, showing the beauty of human weakness.
Week 41
For now I am calling my project Human Nature. I've had this title in my mind since I watched Lars von Trier's movie Antichrist and never really continued to give my thoughts any actual form.
Picasso
I’d like to do some distorted portraits inspired by picasso. By both editing photos digitally and photographing them with different light directions and shadow casting. With in mind the complementary shadows. The distortion and choice of distorting what and where should make up a concept/ tell a story.
