PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Mika Rottemberg
DESCRIPTION OF ARTIST’S PRACTICE / RESEARCH - (not more than 250 words.)
Argentina-born, New York-based artist Mika Rottenberg is devoted to a rigorous practice that combines film, architectural installation, and sculpture to explore ideas of labor and the production of value in our contemporary hyper-capitalist world.
Using traditions of both cinema and sculpture, she seeks out locations around the world where specific systems of production and commerce are in place, such as a pearl factory in China, and a Calexico border town. Through the editing process, and with footage from sets built in her studio, Rottenberg connects seemingly disparate places and things to create elaborate and subversive visual narratives. By weaving fact and fiction together, she highlights the inherent beauty and absurdity of our contemporary existence.

DESCRIPTION OF ARTIST’S PRACTICE / RESEARCH - (not more than 250 words.)
Words that describe my current work are "nomadic" and "infiltration", regarding to the identities or heteronym by which I live and work. The method by which I operate from these identities is infiltration.
My interest is to interact with different networks or dimensions into reality, through profiles designed for each case, and that this interaction is self-sustaining and independent of one another.
Since 2008 I work on a project called "Teoría del quehacer actoral cotidiano para intérpretes”. It is a project in which I intend to investigate the margin of interpretation from the representation of an identity (Naranja Milano Questa) who carries out her acting career while developing her own theory about acting. She uses this theory in practice to function within the environment and interact with the arena of film, television, etc., resulting in a series of films, short films, music videos, TV programs and advertisements in which she participates. Besides the implicit reflections on her forays into the circuit of the performing arts, the content of this theory (which is still in development) is the result of his explorations and analysis on the performance limits offstage, where she creates and develops different identities or characters (such as Clara Smart, Helene Líndelen or other) that operates every day in the real world and from which she develops and builds the main themes of her theory. These characters interact with the real world so that most of them operate in a given circuit obtaining a small income.

GUEST ARTIST NAME: Candice Breitz
Candice Breitz (born 1972, Johannesburg[1]) is a South African artist who works primarily in video and photography.[2][3] She won a 2007 Prince Pierre de Monaco Prize.[4] Her work
is often characterized by multi-channel moving image installations, with a focus on the “attention economy” of contemporary media and culture,[5] often represented in the/
parallelism of the identification with fictional characters and celebrity figures and widespread indifference to global issues.[6] In 2017, she was selected to represent South/
Africa at the Venice Biennale.[7]

Compositional, sculptural, performative and active, the American artist’s photographs emerge from a desire to connect to the prosaic and the everyday, juggling ideas of intimacy,
fantasy and imperfection. In his latest book, hundreds of images of his mom, Kathleen McCain Engman, destabilize the idea of “mother,” lifting her from the baggage of the real

Eliasson’s works span sculpture, painting, photography, film, and installation. Not limited to the confines of the museum and gallery, his practice engages the broader public sphere through architectural projects, interventions in civic space, arts education, policy-making, and issues of sustainability and climate change.

PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Virginia Lee Montgomery
Working across video, performance, sound, and sculpture, her artwork is a research practice of feminist metaphysics. It is surreal, sensorial, and symbolic. While her artwork shifts in
subject matter from ponytails to particle accelerators, to syrups, stones, moths and machines—VLM deploys an idiosyncratic visual vocabulary of repeating gestures like drilling,
dousing, or reaching and recursive symbols like circles, holes and spheres. Her diverse artistic movements interrogate the complex relationship between physical and psychic structures,
the poetics of physics, and the metaphysical connection between life's material and mental realms.

PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Jenny Odell
Jenny Odell is an Oakland-based writer, visual artist, and involuntary birdwatcher whose work often involves the rewards of close observation. On her book ''How to Do Nothing: Resisting the
Attention Economy'' - When the technologies we use every day collapse our experiences into 24/7 availability, platforms for personal branding, and products to be monetized, nothing can be quite so
radical as… doing nothing. Here, Jenny Odell sends up a flare from the heart of Silicon Valley, delivering an action plan to resist capitalist narratives of productivity and techno-determinism, and
to become more meaningfully connected in the process.

NOMINATING STUDENT'S NAME: Shannon
PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Sophie Calle
Variously described as a conceptual artist, a photographer, a movie director, and even a detective, she has developed a practice that is instantly recognizable for its distinct narrative elements
and frequent combination of images with text. Each of her projects can be seen as a chapter in a vast overall volume of references and echoes, in which Calle often blurs the boundaries between the
intimate and the public, reality and fiction, art and life. Her work methodically orchestrates an unveiling of reality—her own and that of others—while allocating a controlled part of this reality
to chance. | |||

PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Farah Al Qasimi
Farah Al Qasimi works with photographs, video, installation, and music. Al Qasimi’s work, which is primarily comprised of photographs taken in the United Arab Emirates and New York City, and which
is currently being exhibited on bus shelters across the five boroughs, spins fabulism from the private pleasures of everyday life...Qasimi reminds us that every here is also an elsewhere.

PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Sujata Majumdar
She has a background in Photography, Physics, and Information Technology. Her background in these different disciplines, and cultures (British, of Indian descent, residing in the Netherlands since 2001), drives her artistic endeavour and pushes her to explore intersections to achieve hybridity. Her photography shows her fascination for forms and patterns that transcend scale, especially at the shifting boundary of nature and man-made. Her photographic style has been deeply influenced by scientific two-dimensional representation in the form of physics diagrams and microscopy slides. Her lens-based imagery often forms the basis of deeper interdisciplinary exploration and artistic research.
She is Head of Conceptual Photography at the Institute of Unnecessary Research and is currently taking part in a two-year exhibition programme at Cyclic Matter.

By weaving fact and fiction together, she highlights the inherent beauty and absurdity of our contemporary existence. - PLEASE INCLUDE RELEVANT LINKS: https://mcachicago.org/Exhibitions/2019/Mika-Rottenberg-Easypieces/Described-Media/Cosmic-Generator

PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Marisa Rubio DESCRIPTION OF ARTIST’S PRACTICE / RESEARCH - (not more than 250 words.)

PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Virginia Lee Montgomery Working across video, performance, sound, and sculpture, her artwork is a research practice of feminist metaphysics. It is surreal, sensorial, and symbolic. While her artwork shifts in subject matter from ponytails to particle accelerators, to syrups, stones, moths and machines—VLM deploys an idiosyncratic visual vocabulary of repeating gestures like drilling, dousing, or reaching and recursive symbols like circles, holes and spheres. Her diverse artistic movements interrogate the complex relationship between physical and psychic structures, the poetics of physics, and the metaphysical connection between life's material and mental realms. PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Jenny Odell Jenny Odell is an Oakland-based writer, visual artist, and involuntary birdwatcher whose work often involves the rewards of close observation. On her book How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy - When the technologies we use every day collapse our experiences into 24/7 availability, platforms for personal branding, and products to be monetized, nothing can be quite so radical as… doing nothing. Here, Jenny Odell sends up a flare from the heart of Silicon Valley, delivering an action plan to resist capitalist narratives of productivity and techno-determinism, and to become more meaningfully connected in the process. PROPOSED GUEST ARTIST NAME: Sophie Calle Variously described as a conceptual artist, a photographer, a movie director, and even a detective, she has developed a practice that is instantly recognizable for its distinct narrative elements and frequent combination of images with text. Each of her projects can be seen as a chapter in a vast overall volume of references and echoes, in which Calle often blurs the boundaries between the intimate and the public, reality and fiction, art and life. Her work methodically orchestrates an unveiling of reality—her own and that of others—while allocating a controlled part of this reality to chance.
