GENERAL INTENTIONS

This is the continuation of the research I have started, "A dictatorship in twilight" during Special Issue #11 : Post-digital itch.

INFRASTRUCTURE & CORRUPTION

While the project will be investigating what infrastructures are corrupted and how, the thesis will be an account both how they are weaponized, AND an analysis of 'why' these systems are corrupted. In a way, what could be the softer infrastructures that allow for these 'hard' architectures/infrastructures to be corrupted.

I want to explore how nation-states restrict flows of communication, monitor content, and promote certain parameters of ‘social order’ through the tactical corruption of infrastructure, both on land and online.

Along with the growth of the thesis, I will be observing through the cross-examination and juxtaposition method that I have pre-developed for my project.

Can we recognize the symptoms of a power unit that weaponizes infrastructures to corrupt them ? (the answer will be a yes) And if so, what exactly are these dynamics ? How can we categorize them to better identify them, and then work around them ?

I will be using this CARE SHEET system of juxtaposition and cross-examination as a methodology to investigate and exemplify what might also be considered or infra-structural corruptions within the material world, the online arena, and in the intersection between the two.

The quesited architectures will be purposely chosen for this thesis to be a stand-alone project.

The goal is to make a series of stories, a series of "maquettes", that would be a direct translation of the violence of some architectural infrastructures into digital shapes. They will all be gathered as part of one bigger story, as a mode of historicizing these pervasive tactics.

OUTLINE

See how the thesis outline was generated

I can’t really lay out the thesis at this exact moment, the solid narrative stemming from the module will only shape into its form around mid-December. For the moment I'm focusing on the structure and on finding some concrete examples to put in it (see module).

CHAPTER 1 : THE MAKING OF HERITAGE (Centralized narrative)
In this chapter we'll look into the long, but uncomplicated, history of self-glorification and exceptionnalism

Area of interest : The 'national' novel
Area of influence : The City-State
Area of operation : The synthesis of data

CHAPTER 2 : TITLE TO COME (Expansionnist desires)
Area of interest : The expandable right to design
Area of influence : Tragedy of the commons
Area of operation : To light a candle is to cast a shadow

CHAPTER 3 : NETWORKS (All people in a common framework)
Area of interest : COOPERATIONS?
Area of influence : Tragedy of the anticommons
Area of operation : The strive towards more and more data

CHAPTER 4 : A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IS WORTH A BATTALION (The belief in supperiority of essence)
Area of interest :
Area of influence :
Area of operation : Masterplanning

Technically, all the content will be organized in order to be read through different possible reading paths. It can also be organized through the three modalities, and make-up three chapters representing the cycle of existence of a corrupted architecture.
