Isabella: the idea is that people accept the way their life is without really challenging it. It's just like "yea that's my life" and they don't really do anything

Andrea: but complain a lot

I: They complain all the time but they don't really... I don't know, there's not really the idea of reinvent yourself

A: Yea very totalistic

I: Yes very totalistic I think

A: so what was the actual question?

Karina: I was just curious if you guys look at your parents

I & A: (laughs)

A: Do we have to?

K: would you say they are past orientated?

A: yes

K: Do they very much decide on when they have to make a decision whether it's really based on their past experiences?

A: yes, I would say so

K: is it in a positive or negative way?

A: I think it's positive

I: always negative

K: negative, and you positive?

A: no no, I think it's a bad thing

K: but the outcome, do you think being past orientated is negative?

I: yes, if you are only past orientated, yes.

K: what would you consider yourself?

A: I am future orientated I would say

I: I think I am future as well, cause if I don't have a plan I freak the fuck out.

I also always, really , like in order to keep going in the present i need something to look forward in the future

A: yea i have exactly the same

I: but that's also stupid because I don't really enjoy the present

A: yea, exactly the same

K: do you clash with your parents or not?

I: Oh yea totally, hmm

K: or can you handle that you understand you, or one way and you are different?

A: No, but it's a different thing, because for instance, my parents are old, also very goal orientated, but they achieved all of their goals. You know? They don't have new goals.

I: The idea in Italy, of many Italians is that once you reached certain things, that's it.

A: Yea, like you've done what had to do and you're complete

I: and for example I'm thinking about my dad, I think it's a little different and he's the one that just didn't like his life, and just tried to take actions about it, but he's very much judged by others just because you don't 
respect your duties, you don't do many other things, and my dad just did it in order to be happy. There's not really this idea of being happy. I think, in general. you put everyone else first, then yourself

A: but not even in a good way, not even in a way that you want to help other people, you just put other people's judgement before your own happiness - which is just a stupid fucked up way of doing things which doesn't help anybody

I: I totally agree

K: And if you look at your grandparents, do you see any difference there? Is it a generational thing?

I: Yea grandparents are completely different generation

A: Yea

I: I would say they are also kind of future orientated, I guess, in a way, and their grandkids

A: I think they are more present orientated. That they are like, I don't know actually, I have no idea.

K: And if you were to divide all those 3 categories into 2 subcategories, so you have the past-positive, past-negative, so you look at the positive experiences that you had or take on that, or only the negatives. You have the present-positive, present-negative and future - would you be able to pin-point people more like that? If you were to say divide it into positive and negative in that way? or doesn't really help?

A: Nope

I: I think though Italians in general, the entire society structures on past, because how great we were five-fucking-hundred-years-ago, and all the culture, the arts, the history, all of this is completely bullocks, that make Italy great, but it's, everything is in the past, they are positive things, they are all in the past, we still live on them, kind of thing. And also like the way the educational system is structure is all about ..

A: like because it worked 100 years ago, doesn't means it's going to work now

I: and there's really not the idea of innovation of changing, it's completely stuck.

A: and when you talk about education actually now it makes me think of like.. For instance my parents think they got education in a certain way, so they went to university and it's exactly like it is now, so just frontal lectures, like swallowing a lot of information, and they think that if they did it that way, then, we must also do it this way, cause that's the right way, because it worked 30 years ago, so it must work now as well.
