G doesn't think he has a very healthy relationship w reading atm. Why? Most days his mood and frame of mind is guided by his ability to engage w his surroundings, unable to feel focused. What does feeling focused mean? Calm and concentrated in his head and to be able to act upon yr desires, will things into being. He goes through his day, starting by checking emails, insta, bbc news, guardian - deeply unsatisfying outlets, bc they're not updated as often as g checks them - looking for changes in the headlines. Rather G would read an article in more depth. He also reads breatheheavy.com for pop music and celeb news. He generally checks these three sites together multiple times a day. He often goes back to one i.e. he reads the guardian - breathe heavy - back to guardian bc he forgot he's already checked it. He can't even remember which one he was looking at. Do you read books? He tends to read a book from start to finish roughly twice a year. How long does it take you to read a book from start to finish? Depends on the amount of words. He owns a lot of (non-fiction) books he hasn't read. He finds it harder to pick up a fiction book bc they feel less useful. … How are they not really factual? They're not really academical or historical or… But he finds them really useful for his work. How much do you read each day? He doesn't read, looks at things for about 4 or 5 hours a day, but doesn't really read. On a "normal day" he checks non-reading more than reading/research that might result in work. Research reading maybe a few times a week. Quotidian act. The writing that happens in his practice, comes from fumbling around w fiction stuff from places or language in the world but that practice hasn't developed, no real method, could be but rn it's more fumbling around in the dark last minute. Not really writing but going back, remembering that "text that I got there", copy and paste bits. When have you last really enjoyed reading? Dolly Parton and John Burgess? Sensation of reading for about an hour, getting into the reading process. Where does the joy come from? Future work? Neither of the two books have content that he can actually appropriate, interested in the content for sure, appreciating them as objects in this isolated encounter. Do you ever feel insecure about yr inability to read or write, work related or not? Predominately negative feeling comes from lack of focus, maybe he also doesn't know enough about the world, but artistically there are ways to relate w the language that do not require deep reading. meditative desire for deep reading. Anti intellectual streak in himself that believes that there is intelligence outside of words. Doesn't want to be a scholarly person, bc it's not necessary to have deep exp w life. Same time he hasn't solved his lifestyle in regards to words. Most people would be surprised at how little people at this level of ed have actually read. Tutors and stuff expect one has read or knows. Interested in developing a position within the discourse that is stimulating. Are yr parents readers? No not at all. But he has been read to as a kid. Read loads as a kid by himself, fiction. Around 10. Conformist thing.Young adulthood not anymore. He had no genre anymore, no more fantasy.
