Ash's writing machine

From Fine Art Wiki

A machine for re-inscribed image memory library.

1. Select an image of old work: preferably a live or performed event, or a work that you didn't make or install yourself. The photograph should be by someone else.

2. Make 6-12 sentences about the image (not the work!) that fit loosely into the sentence structure given in the image. Be sure to look at the image closely, for longer than you would normally. Get it know it differently. Focus on different aspects of the image, on different scales: tiny details, recurrent motifs, overall composition.

3. Once you have a few examples, skip across rows to compose new sentences, record these, see if they prompt any new images. You now have an expanded understanding of the old work, and possibly pathways to new ones too.
