I. Introduction

The following text explores the relation between cybernetics, homeostasis, systems theory and art. The contemporary fusion of art and science leads us to observe and interpret the variety of sensing systems which operate in micro and macro spheres in our habitat. The artist becomes an explorer of multiple worlds and their sciences, fascinated by their function and relation with each other. The urge to feel and analyze those universes, the search of their parallel characteristics and behavior is expressed through the application of discovered intelligences, their patterns and functions to the new creations. Human feels the desire to create artificial life forms since the ancient times of alchemy. We can see the continuation of process nowadays in slowly merging sciences like systems biology or computer science which work with genes or create artificial neural networks. Cybernetic art creates artificial systems that interact with the natural environment, through learning, acting and developing themselves with collected and processed data. The aim is to discover the new possibilities and relations between art, artificial/digital world and natural systems. The thesis is an analysis of analogous characteristics of continuously discovered new artificial and natural structures, questioning how to create new cybernetic systems which can learn and adapt to the environment and integrate into the natural environment. The artificial cybernetic systems I am interested to are not connected only with the aesthetics, for example as generative art, but they exist as artificial live organisms which can evolve and coexist in symbiosis with the environment. The urge of designing new forms of artificial systems is not justified just by an artistic approach, but it is also an emergency to make a progress in evolution and expand our understanding of complex systems, process of homeostasis in order to integrate human society in the natural habitat in a symbiotic way and not as an invasive and devastating dominant species.
