Is the 24-7 hour news society making people confused?

The 1990s gave the rise to mass media and 24 hours news channels. From CNN to Russia Today and Al Jazeer, a complex world have created a diet coke news reporting that are created for easy consumption between channel surfing,

Since the early 90s and the rise of cable news channels have news have invaded peoples homes all of the world, first made popular by CNN created by media mogul Ted Turner in 1980 where he wanted to create a tv channel to run 24/7 to the time when "end of the world” It became firs common world brand under the first Iraq war.

Now the term The CNN Effect have been coined on the impact of the channel on todays news. Later other channels like BBC, Russia Today and Al Jazeera have added the number of channels to you cable box and expand where and from where people get their news

They all want to tell you wants going on in the world, but what are you really getting form it?. The world have always been a complex place, but more often then that not news a really not tell you that much about the stories they are trying to convoy to you.

News channels are brands, just as Coke is The Real Thing, CNN is “Go There; This is CNN” and they all have different angels on news story and since they are commercial, a story that may get the stock share low, maybe not cover as much or not covered at all. For example: Al Jazeera is own and run buy the state of Qatar, and they will be critical about things in the west but ignore the life of immigrant workers in the country. The ideology of a news channel like CNN will be “ We are all of the world, we bring you the news, don't worry” but from the western point of view. Al Jazeera slogan is "Setting The News Agenda" , "Every Story, Every Side" or "Hear The Human Story" Its a statement to from the point of view from being a new channel, a position force to CN. By saying We are all of the world” its a statement to CNN, that we are the world, or we are the rest of the world, from the middle east point of view. But its not a difference. Just as CNN is more alchemic to criticize the non Western World, Al Jazeera is the the opposite, by being not to the local but criticize the western world. The faster the news goes the more superficial it become, its dumb down product for the diet coke viewer.

--- The 24 hours cycle have created a market for constant new content, even at the times where nothing is really is happening But now hyperbole stories can take center stage before real world events just because the hyperbole story is more marketable and can be more shocking that drives viewers. The more shocking, the more view they get, and less views the competition get. The usage of the internet have done lot of impact on todays journalism. Social Media is often used as a source but often is the information on there a result of what media says. The budget cuts in media industry have made the journalist less inept on topics, resources used on research is not where it may have been as before. The rise of alternative new sites and online tv news sites is a direct reaction cookie cutter journalism like “The Young Turkes” as a need to get more inept and on point commentary that more commercial news channels may not be able or want to. Just as the movement of the hippie community to the hegemonic ending to the sterilization of the hippie culture of any meaning, the operations of news starts to event the news to a flat and hegemonic version of itself with no spikes and debate. Out sourcing and freelance are big in the media today, before they where sending reporters down to the hot spots of the world, not only did the report back but also did grow as reporter and depend the knowledge then a quick wikipedia source, now more and more stringers or local freelancer hare hired but also cheap strait from university that travel to hot spot with no support from home. Allot of them are there for the trills for reporting. From this a lot of campaigns are made that generate a need to make more reports, but who do this benefit, the viewers? The companies or the locals that want help.. Some of the reports informs you about a topic, you want to help and you donate money

The fear of the unknown are being used by news media and in marketing to make a dramatic narrative We want to be safe, but watching rolling news makes us afraid, a fear is often used in marketing to sell you product. Fear of 9/11 was used to sell SUV in America, even if the SUV was less safe then other cars. Fear can be the “fear of aging”, the fear of poverty, fear of crime, fear of disaster. News are using fear as a ideology. In the movie Jaws there is a shark that swine around attacks and eat people on the beaches. The Shark have for many been a symbol of natural disasters, immigrants, storms, and attacking the population of american. Fidel Castro said the shark is a metaphor for brutal capitalism exploiting of the normal american. There is a multitude of fears, but with 9/11 and terrorism the american society got one thing to be afraid of, it simplified things and then made the narrative easy for the news media. Slovenian philosopher, and cultural critic Slavoj Zizek says in the movie The Perverts Guide to Ideology “Ideology is like a filter, is a frame that change reality when we look true it” the frame don't add anything, but its opens the abyss to substitutions. Media is seen as a power, power needs authority. Media is the authority on a lot of topics, people got to authority to be explained whats happening, superficial news informs people, but never in the depth that is needed on lot of topic.

Not only in the news the power can change the meaning on topics, songs like Ode to Joy by Beethoven is common seen as kinda of national song for Europe, for freedom, for brotherhood and so on but the song have been used by everyone from the nazi, apartheid in Africa or communist parties in soviet and eastern Europe, so when the story is not understandable not even for the journalist, easy narratives are made can be “The poor is the good guys and the rich are dicks.

We live in a post ideology society, where the old fear of Russia or the USA does not exist no more and things are not as clear as before, and the more complex a story is, the less of a explanation we get. Complex stories its going to have a complex expiation, not something that going to be explained in 10 minutes on cable tv.

The 24 hours cycle have created a market for constant new content, even at the times where nothing is really is happening But now hyperbole stories can take center stage before real world events just because the hyperbole story is more marketable and can be more shocking that drives viewers. == Today's news== OLD VERSION (PS: Since I had a hard time getting to a question I started on writing a text to try to see if was able to write a question from it and by 01:08 at 130115 I still have not really a question or conclusion… update soon)

Its the 24-7 hour news society making the world more complex and people less informed?

The 2000th century gave the rise to mass media and 24 hours news channels. From CNN to Russia Today and Al Jazeer, a complex world have created a diet coke news reporting that are created for easy consumption between channel surfing,
