People's perceptions of the textural properties of a food they are eating, as well as perceived freshness, are highly dependent on and can be influenced by the sounds they hear while eating.

By modifying the sounds that one hears while consuming a particular food, especially when the texture of the consumed food does not match the eating sounds that are being played through headphones, a body reaction can be triggered. The brain has to simultaneously analyze the familiar sounds of a crisp food being eaten that the ears can hear, as well as the texture of the food that is being consumed by the mouth.
