''Bad Food Gone Worse'' shows a collection of food pictures which are somehow deteriorated by the time. Causes are exposure to the sun and/or exposure to kitchen heat and fumes. The images in the book are copies of photographs that are being displayed in different restaurants. The images are ordered by category in the book and show a wide variety of flaws that can occur when pictures are not treated properly. To say what exactly properly is, is difficult to define, but we can agree that to put a picture in a frame and keep it in a friendly environment lets say a normal living- or bedroom, is better than a warm and humid restaurant.
The book plays first in on the fact/trent that restaurants use photographs of their sumptuous (weelderig) dishes to lure food-seekers into their restaurants, second the hope that these pictures represent the food they serve in such a way that is attractive and/or beauty and third that this is sustained over time. And even if it covers the first two assumptions, the third one if always one that is not matched; perfection is something that can be captured, but the aging is something that can not be stopped.
QUOTE: "The photographs are made to quickly target an instinctual desire. They are not an ode to eternal beauty found using carefully considered language or painstakingly high representation. The use of the photographs overtakes their potential of timelessness. But, in the end, no one with an intense hunger may actually look at these photographs for their beauty. They only see what meals are available. They readily identify the dishes of the house and select one knowing that the food will be fresh even if the pictures are not."
LINK THIS TO THE SCULPTURES IN JAPAN, THEIR MEANING AND POSITION IN SOCIETY. HOW WE PERCEIVE THEM ETC!!!! THEY (I ASSUME) VALUE THE SIGHT OF THE PASTIC REPRESENTATIVES-----> SEE CLIP JAPANOLOGY. SO WHAT IS THE POSITION TO FOOD DEPICTIONS/SCULPTURES IN THE DIFFERENT SOCIETIES?
