Metabolic Rift

Fire and oil

The individual is present. They take in the proceedings as spiritual information.

The crumbling infrastructure of modernity comes crashing down from the sky in the form of the Space Shuttle Challenger. The explosion forms patterns of smoke and fire in the sky as debris comes crashing down into the Atlantic Ocean. Time slows to a crawl as the exploding rocket fuels sends shockwaves through time and space.

Jack Parsons, in developing rocket fuel blows himself up during the ritual magic ceremony to invoke the priestess of Babalon "overseer of the Abyss, Sacred Whore, Scarlet Woman, Mother of Abominations" to end the age of male domination, and introduce this new age. She is the flame of life, power of darkness she who feeds upon the death of men … beautiful—horrible

Millions of broadcast television viewers bear witness to the death of this Icarian dream, itself a blood sacrifice.

The hyperslowed image jitters like a vhs tape on pause, and in this resonance transforms to the deepwater horizon oil spill, where in the same body of water the largest marine oil spill in history occured. Imagery of the underwater fires burning spill out.

As the landscapes of planet earth dramatically morph in new strata from a combination of climate change and human industrial refuse, the land embodies new forms of narrative. Previously, geological inquiries revealed processes of millions of years of tectonic activity, this new agglomeration of materials consists of the resulting materials of planetary-scale plastic and electronic waste material meshed into the natural forms of the earth. These future fossils entail machinic and plastiform components that imbue them with the ability to convey information. Project title will present a scenario that transports the public into the near future where a new form of life has arisen from the plastic and silicon refuse we have filled our oceans and lands with. As the public interacts with these new lifeforms, their communication protocols will be revealed through sight, sound and touch, revealing the startling nature of a possible future where the organic world meshes with the manufactured.
