The link between totalitarian system in nazi Germany and the culture of Hollywood and culture mechanisms in general, which are criticized by liberals;
Art production has been tacked over the industry, the text is written by a guy who emigrated to US from Germany;
Repetition of industrial parallel, quote about how samples are made, for example:
If a movement from a Beethoven symphony is crudely “adapted” for a film sound-track in the same way as a Tolstoy novel is garbled in a film script: then the claim that this is done to satisfy the spontaneous wishes of the public is no more than hot air.
We have an industry where it does not matter what has been made artistically, the production and working mechanism of industry is important;
Industry has not changed in 70 years, it still functions the same as it was in 1940s.
If we say that things that are produced by an industry is junk than it can be called as an fundamentalist philosophy;
Debate:
If you study fine art in the netherlands fine art it is called the study the autonomy of art;
The artist where not told about what to paint, they could choose. Autonomy of art does not apply to design, because it is a part of an industry;
The Netherlands want to establish a frame of creative industries in which they put in everything what is connected with art, design and other creative fields;
He is criticizing that art can not be for masses and W.Benjamin says that mechanical reproduction kills aura of an art piece.
It reflects a lot to nowadays, both of the statements;
Everything that is a critic in the text, can be applied to nowadays situation that culture sector is asking for to establish this creative industry, for example in The Netherlands;
We are no longer unified by religion but to new culture, the glue is Facebook, common films that we know, art work and other stuff. For example: top grossing films
YoutubeTV: industry does not have to think about the content any more, just provide the platform and people will do the rest;
If we look at artists and commercial art, than you can see that there is always something where we need to stick with some rules and make money;
The dependence of the most powerful broad- casting company on the electrical industry, or of the motion picture industry on the banks, is characteristic of the whole sphere, whose individual branches are themselves economically interwoven.
The biggest question after the text could be:
Is it all black and white? Why do we try to find borders between art fields, commercial, underground? Isn't every artists dream to create and spread the message, and it does not matter what are the tools? Is it strictly about industrial or non industrial? Do we really need to work only with autonomous art? Is industry bad for art? What is the value of a cultural product?
