It's written (by a man) from the perspective of a woman inside a relationship that is damaging to her, where she feels she is driven to losing her mind.

The other two 'objects' I picked for the exercise related to people on the brink of losing their minds. I chose this song because I self-diagnosed myself with musical tourettes. It was particularly evident in a past relationship that I had in which communication was difficult. I would frequently involuntarily sing songs out load that expressed my inner thoughts so precisely that it scared me. I didn't premeditate which songs or selection of lyrics I would sing but they would always poignantly express my emotions. "Borderline" made a recurring appearance in these tourrette-like outbursts near the end of this relationship.
