Guillem S. Arquer Research Presentation

18:00h

'Tubular cavities of heat'

Description:

On this evening Guillem will present the outcome of the three month research residency period that he has done at the Piet Zwart Institute.

The event will consist of two parts:

- 18:00-18:45: Sonic performance/experimental listening session at the boiler room on the first floor of the PZI building.
- 19:00-19:45: Conversation about the previous experience at the boiler room and what Guillem has surrounded himself with during his period of research.

Information about the project:

During the three month research residency at the Piet Zwart Institute, Guillem has followed his ongoing interest in the conceptual and technological infrastructure that conditions and holds the bodily experience of interior/indoor spaces. This interior space is understood not just as a counterpart to that of the exterior but involved in a multi-layered relationship with the limits that define both.

By exploring the liminal space between exterior and interior, as that of Nature and Culture, Guillem tries to subtract the domestic systems of comfort and climate control from their apparent neutrality as household, industrial and institutional facilities and reveal them as ideological technologies that support the bipolar world-views that obfuscate the connection of the human species with the Earth's ecosystems and that has triggered the shift from the Holocene, "when the Earth remained stable and in the background, indifferent to our stories" (Haraway, D 2020, The Companion Species Manifesto: Dogs, People, and Significant Otherness. Seventh printing. Chicago, USA : Prickly Paradigm Press) to the unpredictability caused by the Anthropocene and/or Capitalocene.
