STEVE READS
quite alot of hours of my day is dedicated to reading, students texts and other related texts, email reading in a day: the unaware of the process type of reading in in the morning when i read the guardian online, i do spend alot of time reading about trump then i seek solace in the arts and enertainments sections i also use a website call all music where i find out about dead jazz players in the evening i do similar iterations i am a person that sometimes read their receipts then i throw them away my reading hanits have changed over the last 20 years, i regret that i dont read more fiction i mostly read texts that are non fiction, i regret that i cant justify to myself the time to read a novel and theres something a bit sad about that, i can go for moths without reading a novel, you think well thats a couple of days i dont have, thats a shame, i recently read straight life which is about a daed jazz player -- its a wonderful book, at christmas i read some non fiction i do read books out loud with my kids, Mr Gun is a kids book, really nicely written, very good for 8 year olds, question: would you rather read the subtitles in a film or just be able to hear the words, which process do you enjoy more listening to it if the subtitles are on i pay much more attention to the structure of the story, theres a different mode of attention there. does your child speak dutch? he speaks both, dutch is his first are you part of any reading groups? no, i have to read too much to work, how do you handle long emails you dont want to read? i write too long emails can you read music? no i cant do you think reading is associated with being ppolitically engaged? a consiencious vlogger can be more engaged when i write i do liek it to be in the register of the spoken, i made a mistake once, i worte a text for someone in a film, a french person was reading it but i gave her such horrible words to work with and so i did learn from that, if you are writing for somebody to read it really has to have breath, and when i am writeing i really do read back to myself, theres a writerly pace and theres a readerly pace some people think but i try not to distinguish between them, i try to make things understandable what kind of books did you liek reading as a child? I likes tutus. . .. id probably liek game of throwns now, then Dostoevsky and tolstoy , i didnt understwand them, they were about russia or something i started with fiction, reading, and there was a lot of magic realism and stuff Kundera then i started to read theory and i woke up in a skip do you sometimes gather with your family and read together? thats a nice description of intimact where a group of people read together - then i nudge my partner and say --- wahoo, this is nice isnt it, like civilised people learning to read is really fast, it takes months, d
do you think that reading is a necessity? or do you think it has to be taught? it has to be taught, theres a social value, all those culturally imbibed values -- ive changed my mind big time that its absolutely a technology thats ingrained in our society, we are a literate society, we are completely shaped by that as subjects, i knew that intellectually, but for hundreds of thousands of years societys existing perfectly fine without the alphabet secondary litary society
