User:Thijshijsijsjss/Human Parser/Notes for a thijs preparing for a public moment
something_joseph_said_describing_my_project.txt > a durational performance in which humans are parsed in a computational system
prev tests:
- public moment: performativity, instruction manuals
- text-adventure: writing a parser
- Asymmetric demo: asymmetry, gameplay manual
- Presentational demo: more than text, thematic
- human-parsed text-adventures: thematic, based on human interaction
- panic prototype: 2 people paper-TA
- FD#2 demo: 3 people paper-TA, role switching, thematic, general
use it not necessarily as a moment to present, but as another moment to test
from prev moment, use the performative quality but this time, with interaction between visitors
want to make another 2 people paper-TA
- that any two people can play, without my instructions
- -> a step up from last paper TAs
- that is more based around conversation
- -> for this purpose, I will allow myself to not explicitly make a TA, just use the explored mechanics based on parsing and dialogue input
- with more focus on the material product
- -> Having a physical publication has been an unattended goal
To not just make a prototype, but a complete 'experience' for this public moment, I will set up The Human Processing Queue and Mutual Understanding Area.
- Starting with a queue
- -> connecting to Senka's project, in which airport queue's are featured. We can make a physical divider with some signs as an entry into the magic circle
- -> how to make people 'respect the queue' now that it's in a busy space shared with others? How to communicate waiting is part of it?
- Leading to an application procedure
- -> To connect last previous moment to this one, and to divide the attendees into HUMAN and PARSER.
- -> To break up the line, so that people aren't necessarily facing the person they entered the line with
- -> With some thematics not captured in the demo
- -> (For Manetta) to have a piece of paper to take with you
- To the Mutual Reflection Zone, where attendees will sit facing each other to 'play' the 'game'.
A question: one of the bigger looming questions atm is how the format of the thesis will connect to the project. If there is a way for this moment to inform this question, that would be amazing. But already it feels like this idea could serve valuable insights to a lot of other open questions / paths to explore. In that case, I might want to consider presenting the thesis at the end. Eg by having sections printed, and giving a random section away to each attendee.
paper demo:
- test to see if my paper publication goal can be satisfied by the project (would also release pressure from thesis, which could be digital)
- attempt at more 'orderly' paper-TA. While I think there is a real charm and thematic justification for the confusion of a lot of paper and a lot of words, (1) it is another layer of difficulty in navigation on top of the thematics (2) I've noticed people are not quick to jump in, they read first, difficult to 'trust' the simulation. Both of these make me feel like too big a paper-TA wouldn't work nicely for a moment like this.
- in turn: attempt at micro-scale TA. How can the constrained language, idea of parsing and themes of dissociation and reflection and a mutual attempt at understanding be captured in the smallest scale possible?
