feeback on thesis

  • narrow the general interest
  • why does spam attracts so much attention? ( is missing the othern half the sentence )
    • does spam attract so much attention and activity around it, not only due to its large quantities and ubiquity, but also as a consequence of inheriting existing cultural forms, from which it develops? Or is spam this familiar structures and characters surfacing, because of the strong appropriation of texts and the large quantities?
  • focusing on the text. Is there any kind of challenge when i look at this text?
  • can I apply strategies of literature criticism strategies to spam?
  • what is the question of Theresa Heys' Email Hoaxes?

z

spam creating story, reoccurring characters the facts surrounding them is a bit of mythology that has an ancestry

is it following the same mechanisms, or is just the same pattern that by chance seems that makes it appear to have an ancestry.

Hypothesis - spam repetitive structure and character

Is the reoccurrence of material simply an accident, derived from the heavy copy'n'paste, that simply by chance seems to mach the patterns found in a larger cultural arena

or

is spam within a line of evolution of culture - boostrapping existing cultural forms, and mutating and developing them into the suiting the needs of spam?

    • automated cyber crime forms of spam

feedback on essay

  • digital folklore - its definition is not clear enough to base the thesis on it
  • asking if spam is a cultural artifact, its maybe stating the obvious. It doesn't need to be proved.
  • what will be the thesis angle ?
    • literary criticism
    • ethnographic - create a map of the current forms of operation of spam
    • culture studies - the evolution of spam (has been written by A.Ludovico, and in Spamology article)

feedback of work

  • choose your own adventure
  • hypertext fiction
  • both contain the danger of diluting of the story - i don't have to add another layer to it
  • how the personal conversations get - the real stories behind it (??)
  • the use of hyper-fiction to document could work
  • parallel universe going on 24/7(??)

connecting facts and traces

  • showing the different narrative, that by placed together the fiction emerge
  • the stories that are within the email
  • what i want to tell? stick to fiction, or show what is behind the curtain - double narrative?

next small project
